We want to ensure a society in which all individuals have equal rights without discrimination based on race by developing a new generation of civil rights and community leaders. We aim to:

♦ Inform youth of the problems affecting African Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities.

♦ Advance the economic, educational, social, and political status of African Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities, and their harmonious cooperation with other peoples.

♦ Stimulate an appreciation of the African Diaspora and other people of color's contribution to civilization.

♦ Develop an intelligent, effective youth leadership.

Raising Black Leaders

Our Mission is to identify, motivate, train, and support black youth on a pathway to becoming impactful leaders in a variety of fields.

What is RAISING BLACK LEADERS (RBL)?

RBL is being established to create a long-term approach to combat systemic racism by focusing on creating leaders in the fields of politics, criminal justice, and advocacy.  Founded by The Resource Room with the support of the Miami Dade NAACP, anchor institutions, and concerned community leaders. This initiative seeks to identify the “Talented Tenth” and support students of color by providing the wrap-around resources they need to graduate from high school and college, with continuing support for their career endeavors.

Program Overview:

RBL will focus on raising black leaders in the following sectors: Public Safety; Lawyers/Judges; Elected Officials; Lobbyists; Education and Health. Through our program structure students will learn and participate in:

→ Advocacy training

→ Understanding Black History & Systemic Racism

→ My History (Family Tree Contest)

→ Understanding Politics and Policies

→ Networking and how to network

→ Career course guidance

Teens Advocating Together

Teens Advocating Together (TAT)

A collaborative effort between the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation and the Miami-Dade Branch of the NAACP.

TAT is designed to include 10-12 high school students from the African American and Jewish communities of Miami-Dade County. Through a series of professional-led programs and workshops, students will be able to build relationships and have access to opportunities for the students to learn about and support each other's communities. TAT will provide participants with the opportunity to build leadership and advocacy skills, volunteer together, and form relationships with teens from across Miami.

The Children's Trust
Youth Advisory Committee

The YAC

Open to all Miami-Dade County high school students, the YAC  serves as the youth voice of The Children's Trust. It is a leadership development program with a focus on service and advocacy, especially relating to children and families.

Youth meet MONTHLY at various locations.

In addition to regular meetings, we develop and execute service-learning projects and participate in field trips.
